Moving INTO or OUT OF Alaska

You are not simply moving into or out of the state of Alaska. You are relocating. This process of relocating does not happen within a few weeks, but usually takes anywhere from 90-120 days! Our best advice to you and your family during your relocation is to become involved in the moving process.

• Obtain a Change of Address Form from the Post Office (notify them of your move) Keep family, friends, and others updated:
  • Banks, Insurance Companies, & Financial Institutions
  • Charge/Credit Card Companies o Doctors, Dentists, & other service providers
  • IRS - 1-800-829-1040 (Form 8822)
• Obtain Medical, Dental, Vision records to take with you
• Have Carpets, Drapes, Furniture, and clothing cleaned
• Disconnect and clean appliances in preparation for move
• Properly empty or discard flammable or hazardous material (oil, antifreeze, cleaning products, paint)
• Keep track of moving receipts (many moving expenses are tax deductible)
